YOUR CAREER FIELD GUIDE
PREPARED FOR
THE NEXT CHAPTER.
Practical steps to help you explain your experience, make a strong introduction, and follow through.
QUICK NAVIGATION
BUILD YOUR PLAN.
Translate experience into a resume
Start with the role you want. Replace military acronyms with language the employer uses. Describe your responsibilities, tools, and results. Use numbers only when you can verify them.
Write a focused cover letter
Name the position, explain why it fits your experience, and provide one or two specific examples. Close with your interest in a conversation.
Prepare to tell your story
Practice a short introduction: your experience, the work you do well, and the role you are seeking. Prepare examples using situation, task, action, and result.
Follow through after the meeting
Record the recruiter’s name, role, and instructions. Submit the application they requested and send a brief thank-you referencing your conversation.
Help military talent see the fit
Explain essential skills, credentials, compensation, schedules, and growth opportunities. Ask candidates to describe their experience in everyday terms.
